C 06

This is a little challenge that has surfaced on the indie-mp3 Yahoo group. The idea is to compile our own compilation for 2006 - C06. Hell! Let's even invent our own scene name - it did the NME no harm. People can e-mail me at blogNOSPAM@indie-mp3.co.uk (removing the nospam bit) with their choice. The rules are:

1) the track has to have been released in 2005 or 2006
2) It must be a free and legal download such as a band site, my space, music download.com etc
3) one track only per respondent
4) a link to the file and website must be provided

Competition:

The compilation will need some cover art so this is a competition to design the CDR cover. Feel free to design what you think would fit the cover and e-mail the address above. The prize will be a copy of the June Bride 7" seven track mini album by Sarandon. I may well throw in a CD or two from the many that have dropped through my door.

Closing date for both is Friday 30th June 2006.

hi, great idea but why not make it something special and do it on a cassette? that would really make it an artefact - touch records are releasing a cassette (i think it may already be available )in celebration of their 20th (25th?) year in business. there also seems to be some movement in the art world as the nostalgia kicks in hard for the over 40s - check out thurston moore's edited mix tape book

That's a good idea but i'm struggling to see how I can get mp3's onto tape!!!

mp3s onto tape? (puts thinking cap on).

It's a great idea. Either with or without the cassette. You could always do a CDr. Moving with the times. Not so nostalgic. But hey.

Hi, what i meant was that the final compilation could be put onto a tape.

Copy the selected tracks to CDR then copy the CDR to cassette. It's not that difficult, no?

Keep the spirit of C86 (C81) alive by using a tape presentation.

Then quality is really going to suffer. It's bad enough making a compilation from 128 k/bit mp3's and even with my decaying hearing I can hear artifacts.

I'm going to stick with the CDR. That way we can get more tracks on and it's easier for all to burn. I certainly haven't got time to distribute tapes!

Fast food, speed dating, quick sex...

Instant gratification... no time to put a bit of effort into anything...

Yes, we could also go back to using candles but ferrchrissakes... copy the bloody tracks from CD or vinyl and leave out the whole mp3 bit - let the visitors suggest tracks for the compilation - mp3s at 128 k/bit are total crap anyway...

Where can I get this compilation? CD, Vinyl or Minidisc will work for me. Unfortunately, I cannot play cassettes, so I really hope it's not cassette only.
