The Tamborines are a West London band but all three members (Lulu, Veronique and Henrz) are originally from Brazil. I caught the band last night at the Sounds XP presents night as we had drafted them in as late replacements for And What Will Be left Of Them? who had to pull out due to ill health the day before. What an inspired substitution it was!
I had not heard anything by the band previously and was struck by their sound which falls into various camps such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spacemen Three, My Bloody Valentine, 1960's Garage, 1980's indie-pop etc. They had a very good retro feel about them thanks to all those influences and they also looked pretty cool as well which is something I do not normally notice about bands.
I have asked them for a demo so hopefully I can cover them in more depth in the future but in the meantime download or stream some tracks courtesy of their My Space page.

"Brazilian-French-Japanese-West London jangly guitar pop, that’s what this world needs. And that’s what we’ve got here with THE TAMBORINES' debut single on Decadent Records. The bassless trio give us summery, early 90’s style guitar pop in the vein of Lemonheads and earlier day Charlatans, the lack of bass along with the swirling organ helping to create a wash of guitars that we don’t hear often enough any more". www.whisperinandhollerin.com
