Meat Whiplash hailed from East Kilbride, Scotlandand consisted of Paul McDermott (vox), Stephen McLean (guitar), Edward Connelly (bass guitar) and Michael Kerr (drums) taking their name from a Fire Engines b-side. They only released one single Don't Slip Up which was produced by the Jesus and Mary Chains Brothers Reid and released on Creation. Indeed the sleeve for the single was printed by Bobby Gillespie and hand-folded by their record label's owner, Alan McGee (who did the same for the first 20 releases on Creation).
The band also recorded a Peel Session in 1985 but in 1987 they became the Motorcycle Boy when Connelly's girlfriend, Alex Taylor, then of The Shop Assistants joined the group.
