The Madeleines - Single Review

The Madeleines are James Stephens (Guitar/Vocals), Matt Jacobsen (Guitar/Vocals), Mike Beevor (Bass) and Duncan Parker(Drums) who hail from London and this double a-sided release is their debut single.

Sadly Safety Net (or should that be thankfully?) is not a cover version of the Shop Assistants classic as I first thought it might be when I saw the title! It is however a great romp through the lands of power-pop! Fast flowing frantic guitars set the pace and are coupled with some pretty decent vocals from both guitarists. The other double a-side Trouble carries on in pretty much the same vein.

Both tracks are extremely catchy songs with hooks in the right places. The downside is that I cannot imagine listening to these tracks in a couple of months time and remembering too much about them. There are plenty of other bands out there these days (especially on the London circuit) and it takes something special, as in The Bridge Gang's case, to stand out from the crowd. Recommended purchase for a short term fix only.

You can listen to the single on the bands My Space page. There are two tracks to download as well:

The Madelienes - Pilot Light
The Madelienes - Alias

You can buy the single, which is out now on Destructible, here or buy it digitally from Karmadownload.
