I am no longer providing the Sounds XP Podcast from this blog. You can still subscribe to them here and they will feature different tracks to the ones appearing on this blog's podcast.
Saying that the first features some tracks that have previously on the Sounds XP one but supplement The List 2005 post.
Out of interest what do people think about people speaking on Podcasts introducing songs or adding extra informations about a band or release. I haven't got the best recording voice in the world but am considering adding my nasal tones to the casts in feature. Let me know via the comments.
Anyway back to the podcast which you can subscribe to here or via the podcast button on the menu. The track list is:
Audrey: Box, And Fights
Sambassadeur: New Moon
Santa Dog: Chemical
Decoration: Escape Routine
Persil: Happy
Wan Light: That Grim Reality
The Charade: Monday Morning
By the way both the Wan Light and The Charade albums are on e-music. You can download both for free if you are not an existing subscriber as part of their free 50 mp3 trial.

I have trouble with podcasts. I should read more about them. Same goes for 'feeds'. Completely out of my depth. Or, more likely, too lazy to read up on it, test it and figure it. You decice.
As for intro's about bands etc. Cool idea. As long as the talking is short and to the point.
excellent mix and yeh a little intro would be great
Your podcasts are great. I've listened to your "Indie MP3 Podcast 03/12/2005" and "Indie MP3 Podcast 06/12/2005" multiple times already.
However, I wasn't 100% sure which tracklists on your website matched up with which podcasts... Mostly because, being a foolish Yank, I thought that these podcasts were from March 12th and June 12th, which really confused me.... until I remembered that to the Brits 03/12/2005 means Dec. 3 and 06/12 is Dec. 6. Casual browsers might not pick up on this, although hopefully the casual browser can figure this out faster than I.
So, perhaps you should record a short intro to the beginning of each mix, where you can note the date, zip through the tracklist, and remind users when you next podcast might be expected. Throw in a couple of points of interest if something comes to mind. And then at the end of the mix I think it's absolutely your right to give a quick plug for your website. But don't interrupt the perfect 20 minutes of music that makes up the bulk of the podcast. Once the mix starts, just let it flow...
To be honest, I'm a little mixed about this, because one of the things I like about your podcast is that it's ALL great music and no chatter, so I can just loop your podcasts on my media player and play it while I write or while company is over, etc., without the distraction of a voice.... But, hey, then again, you're obviously a knowledgable guy and you chose these tunes for a reason, so why not tell us about it?
Keeping the patter short and then sending people back to your website if they want more info is probably the key way to go about it, though. But since your mixes could end up getting passed around, then mentioning the tracklist and your website address are musts -- for the sake of boosting your website traffic, acknowledging the bands, and keeping the listener informed.
(Note: the JRiver Media Center just added a nice podcast feature that lets users subscribe to feeds, download the MP3s, play 'em, etc., really easily; I'm listening to ten times as many podcasts now because of it. I guess iTunes is doing the same thing now as well, but I haven't tried it yet. And there are others I probably don't know about. Spreading the word to your users about how to best go about this might be helpful, since being able to subscribe to your podcasts from within a media player using your feed will keep people listening even when they haven't remembered to visit your site.)
Keep up the good work. Your taste in music is brilliant.
Short intros are v. useful, esp. when you're listening away from the computer, which is kinda the whole idea (although I lost my MP3 player so I'm always listening at the computer these days).
As long as it doesn't degenerate into drunken banter (stand up Radio Clash!) it's fine. Practice with your voice and with different effects, you should be ok. Maybe try low level music in the background if you're not 100% confident.
All the best, Jim
PS you might also want to think about changing the ID3 tags so that the podcast date displays in the player, and/or using a podcast number as well as the date.
Not sure what player you are using but it has ID tags showing the date of podcast etc already!
