Pete and The Pirates are a new band on me - maybe if they came from Stockholm or Gothenburg I might have picked up on them earlier. Anyway they seem to have been around for a couple of years now attracting rave reviews about their live appearances and their unique sound. Rough Trade compared them to "the Englishness of the Mystery Jets or Wire despite sounding like neither". I think I know what they mean. They have been on my check out this lot pile for a while now and I finally got a round to it this past weekend. And I am mighty glad I did. A band that certainly lives up to the hype on the various message boards and forums I have seen them recommended on.
