Æla (pronounced Aela) is an Icelandic punk band. Their songs are exploding with energy and joy, not anger...and sometimes comic desperation as in my favorite song, Magnarinn, where Halli Valli, the band's towering vocalist, sings about his loneliness and the need to get an amplifier to keep him company, "...even if it's just a...a...a....Yamaha!" The name Æla literally means "Puke", but don't let that throw you off as their songs are playful, fun and crazy, and Halli Valli's vocals are very reminiscent of Einar Örn from The Sugarcubes. They're currently recording and mixing an album which they promise to "puke out before christmas". Check out their artist profile for the Iceland Airwaves festival and their official homepage.
